What is the mood board?

The Mood Board is a collective of independent interior designers sharing a physical design studio in North Seattle.

Just like a booth rental business model in the beauty industry, designers rent their desk space and share studio resources while running their own independent business and keeping their own schedules.

Designers must apply to become a member of the Mood Board as space is limited and it may not be the best fit for everyone.

We may have different styles and ways of conducting business, but we agree on a few basic things:

  • Design should be accessible for all.

  • We want to be a presence in the community.

  • There is more than enough business to go around.

what was the motivation behind the mood board?

Working in a silo is not ideal for a creative person. It can feel isolating and sometimes stunting.

Andrea Krajeski of Copper Boom Design was looking for a way to work amongst other designers while continuing her journey as a solo entrepreneur.

She produced the idea of the Mood Board while sitting in the chair of a newly opened, gorgeously designed, hair salon and chatting with the owner about the stylists who rent her chairs. It seemed like a win-win for everyone, and she was curious to find out if it could work in the interior design world.

Some other bonuses:

  • Less sample waste

  • Moral support & advice

  • Referrals and outsourcing work

What amenities will the space have?

  • A store-front & marketing presence

  • A beautifully designed space

  • Workstations & business logo sign for each member

  • A stocked & organized material library

  • A meeting/design/presentation space

  • A printer/copier

  • Wifi

  • A coffee/break station

  • Social and educational events

  • ….more ideas to come!

who are we looking for?

We are currently looking for four independent designers to join the Mood Board! Since we’ll be sharing a space, fit is everything. So, let’s meet!
